After a longer period of time I came back to digital storytelling and reviewed the tools still available there. But what I found was that the still good oldStorybird and decided to check its functionality again. Previously I placed them in the presentation making tools/ lessons as they can be also used for presentation, but I think they sit better in this section...
After storyboarding and designing the stories, what I did with my students was to got down to the computers as the website does not have a mobile app at the moment. I had been using the site before so I knew what to expect anyway and knew its functionality, but needed a bit of a new twist.

You need to spend more time on preparation and planning of the more sophisticated cartoon making classes but the final outcome is always great and rewarding.
First of all, make sure students feel comfortable with using the Internet and their digital literacy is not holding them back. It is advisable to show students how the websites operate and then allow some time for students to experiment with them.
These two cartoons were created as a part of a project which took approximately 6 hrs. We were practicing functional language but animations as such can be also used for grammar and vocabulary.
It is a great and fun way to activate our Net Generation of students.

Online there are different tools which allow you to create cartoons in just 10 minutes as well as the more sophisticated ones, on which you need to spend much more time. |
